Juanita Martinez, a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003.

Juanita was born Dec. 14, 1922, in La Flora County, Okla. She was 13 when her family moved to Morgan Hill. It was here that she met and married, on May 23, 1946, rancher Joseph Martinez, her husband of 53 years. Juanita stayed busy working with Joseph in the Martinez Brothers Plastering business, and because of her great love for people worked as a nursing aide for the Morgan Hill Rest Home.

The loving mother of two daughters and one son, she is survived by Jackie D’anna-Burt of Sacramento and Thomas Martinez, wife Dana, of San Jose.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister Minnie Hastings; and several nieces and nephews.

Characteristic of her abiding concern for others, Juanita always made time for her family and for others. She was loved by all and known by everyone as “granny.” Juanita’s love for people is a reflection of her great love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, known today as Shadow Mountain Baptist Church and remained an active and supportive member throughout her lifetime.

Services were Thursday, Oct. 9, at Shadow Mountain Baptist Church. Interment, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, was at Mount Hope Cemetery.
