The Morgan Hill Junior Midget Raiders scored 27 first-half points to top Redwood City at Woodside High.

The Raiders’ offense totaled 205 yards, rushing for two touchdowns and a nine-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Villarreal to Steven Villarreal.

Jonah Guary was perfect on the day with three extra point kicks and a 22-yard field goal.

The Raiders’ defense kept Redwood City to minus eight yards of offense until late in the game when the 49ers had a long 71-yard sweep for their only score.

Derrick Taylor led Raiders rushers with 56 yards on 10 carries including a four-yard touchdown.

Jerry Jacob was the entire running attack on the Raiders’ opening drive scoring on a one-yard plunge after going 25 yards on four rushes.

Victor Del Rio had a nice game, grinding out 20 yards on six carries.

Danny Saporito took over as Raiders quarterback in the second half and threw a 20-yard strike to A. Villarreal on third-and-eight.

After a disappointing showing in the pre-season opener, the Raiders defense shut down any Redwood City offense, taking the ball away four times.

Hunter Sutton and S. Villarreal recovered fumbles and Taylor and Tazmond Carrasco each intercepted passes.

Carrasco also had a sack.

Frankie Palmer and Tyler Lerma led the team in tackles with five each while Josh Priest had two solo tackles and a couple of assists.

Pee Wee:

Redwood City 49ers 8, Mogan Hill Raiders 7

A hard fought back and forth regular season opener for the Morgan Hill Pee Wee Raiders left them on the short end of an 8-7 game with the Redwood City 49ers.

After only one drive in the third quarter, the Raiders put together a 44-yard drive, highlighted by a 24-yard Tevor Bearden run around the left end.

Linemen Willie Long and Dalton Craig blew open the side and Bearden was dragged down from behind at the six yard-line.

Kyle Quadros took over with three straight punishing runs up the middle to get the ball to the three yard-line.

Bearden then followed Long and Craig again around the left end and went in for the touchdown.

Bearden followed the touchdown with a run for the extra point.

In Pop Warner, a run is one points and kick is two points.

Redwood City took the ensuing kick off and worked the short field for a two-minute drill that resulted in a four-yard run for a touchdown.

Then, in a bold move the 49ers kicked an extra point to go ahead 8-7 with 52 seconds left.

The Raiders were not finished however and with 55 yards to go, the Raiders turned to the arm of Taylor Turrnipseed, who threw a thrilling 28-yard pass to Dom Maciel.

Macial pulled down the pass in double coverage, and was hauled down at the 15-yard-line as time expired.

The back and forth game was epitomized by great defense. Mitch Crowley and Kyle Quadros lead the Raiders in tackles, with Quadros making two solo, open-field stops.

Paul Salinas had a big sack on an early fourth and and long to set the defensive tone for the Raiders.
