After being disqualified in her first trip to the Junior Olympics two years ago, Morgan Hill’s Cobbie Jones was determined to make sure everything was done right this time around.

Jones, a Live Oak High standout running for the Los Gatos Athletic Association this summer, was slated to compete in the 800 at the U.S. Junior Olympics held at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field last week.

But according to Jones’ mother Diane Urban, Jones’ LGAA coach got the sign-in time for her heat mixed up, she arrived too late and was DQd.

On the bright side, Urban said, Jones and her LGAA teammates finished sixth in the nation in the 4×800 relay and earned a medal.

Fellow Acorn Jonathan Kamei also competed at the Junior Olympics last week, finishing in the top 30 overall in the 1,500.
