Gilroy – Sheriff’s investigators are seeking a silver car stolen from a mushroom plant worker who was bludgeoned in the parking lot as he left work, more than three weeks ago.
Sgt. John McIntosh declined to name the 45-year-old Gilroy man who is still comatose after being attacked at 5:30pm May 30 as he left work at Monterey Mushroom Company, 642 Hale Ave., in Morgan Hill.
McIntosh would not describe his specific injuries, concerned that doing so might compromise the investigation: He described them simply as “life-threatening.” Deputies have yet to arrest the Gilroy man’s assailant or assailants.
The victim’s car is a silver two-door 1995 Chrysler Sebring LX, and was stolen along with his wallet during the attack. The car is registered out of Gilroy, and its license plate number is 3MRM267. Investigators supplied a photo of a similar vehicle, hoping that community members might spot the stolen car and lead them to the attacker.
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ed Wise said Thursday the victim remains in a comma and deputies are continuing to seek his assailant.
