Who will be top dog Saturday?
MORGAN HILL — The Bulldogs sporting a block “S” on their helmets at Richert Field shouldn’t have any trouble earning a victory for homecoming — as long as they don’t take San Jose lightly starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The winless visiting Bulldogs (0-3 overall, 0-1 West Valley Division) — also red — mark the first clear-cut underdog for Sobrato (3-1, 1-0) this season. The host Bulldogs are coming off an impressive 31-19 league win over Silver Creek, but will have to play just as soundly the rest of the way to clinch the division and its only automatic playoff berth.
One loss can spoil Sobrato’s season.
Acorns, Lions looking for win No. 1
With homecoming Saturday, and two more ranked opponents visiting Richert Field in the coming weeks, the Acorns never needed a victory more.
Live Oak (0-4 overall, 0-1 Mount Hamilton Division) had visions of returning to the playoffs this year. Beginning at 7 p.m. today, those dreams could be dashed with a loss to Lincoln (0-3, 0-1). Call it a must-win game for both teams. Three of the Lions’ next four opponents are listed in the San Jose Mercury News’ top 15.
Having faced wing T offenses the past two weeks, the Acorns are both hungry and well prepared.
