The event, as you know provides scholarships for Live Oak High School students. Funds raised have provided over 100 sets of uniforms for the Live Oak track and field, and cross country teams, and we have provided a team tent to identify the team and Community at regional meets.

As a basis for support, we have funded these sports because they do not “cut” anyone who gives efforts and provides equal opportunity for boys and girls to participate. It gives a means for kids who are not huge or tall a way to fill out their resume that they may show an athletic side on their college applications through track and cross country sports. It is interesting to note that the only kids in the last five years that we know, out of Live Oak High to be accepted to MIT, have been from our track and/or cross country programs under our fundraising program. They were Jason Alcarez and Oneil Bhalala.

This fund raiser has taken on the task of helping the Morgan Hill School District to complete the all-weather track at Live Oak High. This track facility will prove to be not only a great asset to the School District and its students as being one of the very few all-weather track facilities large enough in Santa Clara County’s public high schools capable of holding regional track meets, but will be available to the entire community when not in use by the school.

Our efforts have focused on convincing others to join us in purchasing 100 new hurdles, starting blocks and other equipment the district could not fund. Without these items, no track meet could be held. Further, if the school district budget cuts affect the cross country and track programs, without the South Valley Wine Auction to be held April 25, these sports will cease to exist.

The following local community-minded restaurants will be participating in our event providing tastes: Mr. Hongs, My Pizza, Le’ Bistro, Mauritzios, Giancarlos, Trail Dust BBQ, San Martin Meats & Catering, Friendly Fred’s Catering and Rosy’s At The Beach. What a great mixture and selection of Morgan Hill’s eateries.

On the wine side, Leal Estate Cellars, Guglielmo Winery, Pedrizzetti Winery, Cloninger Cellars, Mirassou Vineyards, MacMurray Ranch, Rancho Zabacco, Gallo of Sonoma, Fortino Winery and Solis Cellars will all be pouring wines.

We have many items for live and silent auctions, plus wonderful theme baskets and raffle prizes. Tickets can be requested by calling 778-9501, information on donating auction items or getting general information can be obtained by calling 779-7391.

The event takes place on Friday, April 25 at the Morgan Hill Cultural Center located at Dunne and Monterey Road. The event starts at 7 p.m.

We feel that this is definitely one of the best combinations of restaurants and wineries in one event.

As sponsors of the event we have the following South Valley National Bank, Sakata Seeds, USA, Morgan Hill Times-South Valley Newspapers, Washington Mutual Bank, Morgan Hill Rotary Club and Fry’s Electronics.

One of the more unusual bid items is a dining experience donated by San Martin Meats & Catering and Clos LaChance Winery. It features an barbecue meal for 10 adults at Clos LaChance’s outdoor patio overlooking the CordeValle Golf Course with tri-tip and chicken and all the trimmings enhanced by a selection of Clos LaChance wines.
