I am writing to express my disappointment with both the professionalism and lack of forethought many in Morgan Hill’s City Council have shown concerning the proposed Ford dealership coming to Morgan Hill.
First, it is clear that arguments directed toward the one voice in the City Council that is against the dealership, that of Hedy Chang, are completely naive and with no basis. The very least we expect out of our local politicians is that when they speak they do so based on facts. I don’t need to go into detail on this as all you have to do is read the local papers to get the entire story.
Second, though the community is clearly against this dealership, we are not against new business to generate tax revenue. However, we do care about the long-term growth, image and vitality of our beautiful city.
Los Gatos should be our model, not Gilroy, not Modesto, you get the point. I challenge our local goverment to show a little creativity and effort in attracting businesses that will both serve the community and create new tax revenue. What effort is being made to attract a Trader Joe’s, better restaurants that are both affordable and serve good food, (JR Brewsky’s is good model) and a larger variety of shops downtown that will draw people (title companies don’t draw much traffic and every town has antique stores). Surely, there are other options for tax revenue than a car or motorcycle dealership. By the way, we can wait on the pool.
Finally, this decision will shape my vote in coming elections. I will closely watch the decisions and efforts made by our elected council members, to see if they are representing the interests of the community or are indebted to some other entity.
Thank you Hedy Chang for having the courage to speak for those you represent, the citizens of Morgan Hill.
