I am writing to voice my objection to In-N-Out Burger. Why do we need another kind of burger place in Morgan Hill? This would make things even more confusing than they aready are.
Morgan Hill is a “McDonalds” town, and we should stand by our commitment to McDonalds. We have three in Morgan Hill now, and I think we should stand by them and require them to build a fourth McDonalds the site being pursued by In-N-Out. If our city government planners were to allow a new new kind of burger restaurant, we would show disloyalty to McDonalds, and would prove to be too confusing for the people of Morgan Hill.
This also goes for Safeway. The Times ran a column last week indicating that Morgan Hill needs a Trader Joes and Whole Foods. Our City Council has done a good job of keeping new businesses out of Morgan Hill, and should continue to do so with these.
We are a Safeway town, and Safeway should proceed with plans to build another store at Tennant Station. They should also build a Safeway on Cochrane. This would be very convenient for customers, and would demonstrate our commitment to Safeway.
The City Council is doing a fine job of keeping these outsiders out of our city. Our lives are busy and confusing enough, and I am glad we have a City Council who is protecting us from having too many choices of businesses to deal with.
The architectural, landscaping, parking, and gateway rules are a fine deterrant and business are finally getting the message and taking their stores elsewhere. Our central government planning bureau is doing a fine job for the people of the republic of Morgan Hill. I would encourage them to invoke more such rules to protect the status quo.
