What makes a city truly strong? It is not only the roads we repair, the buildings we construct or the parks we maintain. These investments matter, but the greatest strength of any city comes from the people who call it home.
Trust is not built with concrete and steel. Belonging is not created by buildings alone. A strong community is built when community knows their voices matter, when neighbors feel connected and when everyone has the opportunity to help shape the future of their city.
Morgan Hill is strongest when communities are informed, engaged and connected to local government. When people understand how decisions are made and feel confident sharing their ideas, our entire community benefits. Leadership grows. Relationships become stronger.
That is why the City of Morgan Hill is launching the ELEVATE Morgan Hill Spanish Leadership Academy this fall—the first city-led leadership program taught entirely in Spanish.
This Academy is much more than language. It is about access, opportunity and leadership. Because leadership does not come in only one language. Leadership is built through experience, ideas, relationships and a commitment to making our community better.
Across Morgan Hill, there are residents who are already leading every day. They support their neighbors, help their families, organize within their communities and create connections that make our city stronger.
Yet many of these community leaders have never considered serving on a city commission or school district board, attending a public meeting or engaging directly with local government. Not because they lack passion or ideas but because government processes can feel unfamiliar, and language barriers can make participation feel out of reach.
The ELEVATE Morgan Hill Spanish Leadership Academy is focused on changing that. We are not creating leaders. Morgan Hill already has leaders. We are creating pathways for those leaders to access the tools, knowledge and connections they need to make an even greater impact.
Over 10 weeks, a cohort of 15-20 community members will learn how local government works, how to advocate for their neighborhoods, how to connect residents with resources and how to participate in civic life.
Through this experience, participants will become certified Promotores(as), trusted community ambassadors who help strengthen the connection between residents and elected leaders.
When residents are equipped with information and opportunities to participate, everyone benefits. More voices are included. Better ideas are shared. Stronger relationships are built.
The future of Morgan Hill depends on all of us. It depends on creating a community where every resident feels that they belong and where every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
Leadership has never belonged to just one group, one background or one language. In Morgan Hill, leadership is growing across our neighborhoods, and it speaks more than one language.
