Caller 1: Hi, I am a student attending Ann Sobrato High School.
I was looking at your sports page and was very disappointed to see
that you put in all Live Oak teams and then the Sobrato (teams). I
understand that those are varsity teams, but Sobrato is also a high
school with great teams. The Sobrato sports teams also finished
first in hurdles against Hollister and Live Oak. By only showing
Live Oak in your newspaper, you
’re showing lack of interest in Sobrato High and if you’re
supposed to be the Morgan Hill Times, you should be reporting about
Morgan Hill. Yet you seem to leave out half the high schools in the
city. I’m very disappointed about how you just leave out the new
high school. Also, you have never
left out Live Oak, but we have the same teams. If you consider
yourself to be the newspaper reporting Morgan Hill news, then I
would no longer leave out the other schools. I would appreciate
this greatly, thank you. Green phone: Thank you very much for your
call. This gives us another chance to reit
erate both our desire to include as many Sobrato High sports
results in the Morgan Hill Times as possible and the assistance we
need from all the coaches, parents and even the students like you
to help us do so. Ordinarily, because of space and time
considerations, we limit coverage of junior varsit
y sports to a paragraph. However, since Sobrato is a first-year
school with only JV sports, we decided to devote more coverage to
the brand new school and its sports teams. As a result, we have
included previews on each Sobrato sport in our sports section, and
have encouraged all Bulldogs coaches to
provide us with regular results. (Please note how much more
coverage we have given Sobrato JV sports when compared with Live
Oak JV sports.) Because we have limited staff, we rely on the
Sobrato coaches to send in their results, and have made sure to run
everything we’re sent. So, the amount of s
ports coverage Sobrato has received and will receive this school
year is directly related to the amount of input we receive from the
high school’s coaches. Next year, when Sobrato has varsity sports
teams, we will offer more in-person coverage, although it will be a
juggling act between the two lo
cal high schools. For now, though, we hope all Sobrato coaches,
parents and students will do everything they can to make sure they
get results to us on a regular basis.
