CALLER 2: I was calling in concern with you not covering the wrestling team. I don’t know if you people are aware that they are ranked No. 1 in the state.
They have four boys that are ranked top three in the state.
They just won four first-places at the Zinkin Tournament in Clovis. And you people don’t even print nothing on it. I thought you were a newspaper. Apparently you are not.
GREEN PHONE: Hello Caller 2. Well, I think we would have to be living under a rock to not know how good the Gilroy High wrestling team is. Which is why we did cover the Zinkin Classic, the Mustangs’ first major tournament of the season, in last Thursday’s paper.
Maybe you made this call earlier in the week, before the story ran. Something you have to understand with wrestling is that many of the tournaments Gilroy goes to aren’t held locally. And when we say not local, we don’t mean Salinas. We mean places like Fresno and Reno, Nev.
With the busy winter high school schedule, we can’t always send someone to cover these distant tournaments in person so we rely on the help of coaches to help get us results and other information. We’re still a newspaper. All we can say is, we’ll try harder.
