Firefighters this afternoon extinguished a vegetation blaze on the side of U.S. 101 north of Morgan Hill, just minutes after crews finished mopping up another fire in the same vicinity that burned about 100 acres since Wednesday.
About 3 p.m. Aug. 18, crews from CalFire responded to the wildfire on the east side of the freeway near the Bailey Avenue exit, according to CalFire Assistant Chief Mike Borelli. That fire burned about two acres of vegetation, and was cleared shortly after crews attacked it.
That fire was unrelated to the Aug. 17 blaze next to the freeway, which burned about 100 acres of grass and oak woodland near the Coyote Creek Golf Drive exit, Borelli said. The wildfire also burned on the east side of the freeway, and started about 3:30 p.m.
Crews were able to get the Wednesday fire mostly contained by the morning of Aug. 18, and was cleared by 3 p.m., Borelli said.
No structures were damaged in either fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause of each wildfire is under investigation.
