They just keep on winning. The Live Oak girls team improved its record 11-0 and 3-0 after a 9-2 win over visiting Salinas on Tuesday.
Chelsea Lanning led the way with four goals, and Ronni Gautchi had three. Breana Stevenson added a pair of goals.
But even though Live Oak remains perfect with its 11th win, coach Bryan Traverso said the passing and shots were still not were he’d like to see them at in order to beat one of the top ranked teams like St. Francis.
Live Oak’s defense has been the key to the team’s success so far, Traverso said.
“We don’t give up a lot of shots,” Traverso said. “Our speed and defense have always carried us. We’ve been able to press really well. This year’s team is definitely much better than last year’s. They have more experience and have a better knowledge of the game.”
The JV team defeated Salinas 15-0. Joanna Dennery made some nice saves in the net. Katie Robinson led the Acorns with six goals. Laura Shope had four. Kelly Cook and Amanda Rosenburg had two. Susie Burdman added a goal.
