Live Oak fell to 0-2 in nonleague play.

Losses Thursday put pressure on Bulldogs, Acorns in second half
of league play
MORGAN HILL — The first half of league play cannot end soon enough for the Lady Bulldogs.

Thursday, they lost 64-39 in their home gym to Oak Grove, dropping to 0-6 in the Mount Hamilton Division with one game left until the secound round of league begins.

A third consecutive playoff appearance is nearly out of the question for Sobrato (3-13 overall), pending an unprecedented turnaround — a tall order for a young club that is missing its top two scorers from a year ago because of injuries.

Against Oak Grove (8-8, 3-3), sophomore Jessica Westall led the Bulldogs with 10 points. Katie Nicca and Alejandra Villamares added eight points apiece.

Sobrato trailed by less than 10 points at halftime for the first time in league. The Eagles led 30-21 at the break before pushing ahead by 17 in the third quarter.

Freshman point guard Candy De Los Reyes reeled off 33 points to lead Oak Grove, and teammate Jolana Jordan finished with 19.

Sobrato wraps up the first half of league at 7 p.m. Tuesday against host Westmont.

Acorns rally late in loss

Live Oak’s playoff chances are fading fast.

The Lady Acorns won the last two quarters Thursday at home against first-place Lick but could not overcome a 22-6 halftime deficit, losing 38-27.

At 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the West Valley Division, Live Oak has to win its remaining eight conference matchups to finish .500 and solidify its eligability for the Central Coast Section Division III tournament. Live Oak visits Hill at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Acorns, who have had their own share of injury woes this winter, received a career-high 10 points from Danielle Horning and seven from Ariana Guerrero.

Melissa Cabrera scored a dozen to lead the Comets (10-4, 5-1), winners in five of their last six games.
