Not that Live Oak needed any help, but Gilroy decided to be
generous with an own goal in the 16-9 Live Oak win on
Wednesday.
“We didn’t play good defense at all,” said Gilroy coach Andy Been.

A lethal Live Oak attack shredded the Gilroy defense – which gave up five goals and answered with only one.

Things didn’t get any better in the second quarter for Gilroy as Live Oak scored just minutes into the period to stretch the gap to 6-1.

The Acorns answered right back though, widening their lead to six.

The Gilroy defense threw the ball into their own net to give Live Oak an 8-3 lead.

The Lady Acorns scored two more goals by the end of the second quarter, leading Gilroy by a 10-3 margin at the break.

Each team scored two goals in the third period, before Live Oak was able to pull away even more in the final frame.

“They had really good defense so it was hard to do anything,” said Gilroy’s Kim Spaulding, who scored a goal late. “It was really frustrating.”
