Young people age 8 -15 who love to act, sing, dance, and perform can now enroll in the popular Summer Theater Arts Repertory (S.T.A.R.) program offered by Gavilan College at its new location in Morgan Hill.

Gavilan College Community Education and the City of Morgan Hill Recreation and Community Services Division are excited to present this fresh opportunity, which will use the performance and rehearsal facilities at the new Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center.

The Gavilan College S.T.A.R. program is now in its 18th year, and until now has only been available at the Gilroy campus.

“I’ve always wanted to bring S.T.A.R. to more communities,” said Marilyn Abad-Cardinalli, who oversees the program.

“S.T.A.R. helps introduce young people to the performing arts as participants, rather than spectators. Many kids have limited exposure to the arts or opportunities to explore their talents. This is a great way for them to have fun while learning about the performing arts,” she said.

Through the S.T.A.R. program, young performers gain experience in acting, singing, dancing and improvisation through the production, rehearsal, and live performance of a Broadway musical.

This summer, Morgan Hill S.T.A.R. kids will produce the musical “Give My Regards To Broadway,” which combines George M. Cohan’s best-loved show tunes with a lively, happy-ending story.

The three-week program runs from July 14 through Aug. 3, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center

The cost is $475 for Morgan Hill residents, and $482 for non-residents, covering the entire three-week program. To register call (408) 782-0002 or register online at www.reclink.com

The STAR program will continue to be offered at the Gilroy campus as well as in Morgan Hill. The Gilroy S.T.A.R. production will be the musical “Groovy.” For details on session dates, fees, and registration for Gilroy S.T.A.R., call (408) 848-4860 or go to the Gavilan College Community Education website: www.gavilan.edu/ce
