Now that the qualifying period for candidates in the Nov. 5 general election is over, the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters office has released a list of qualified candidates for races in Morgan Hill and other local communities and districts.

The local ballot in Morgan Hill features an election for mayor and two city council seats, as well as three seats on the Morgan Hill Unified School District board of education.

Running for mayor are incumbent Mark Turner and Yvonne Martinez Beltran, according to the ROV’s list of candidates. Martinez Beltran currently represents District B on the Morgan Hill City Council.

Neither the election for city council District A or District C features an incumbent, according to the list.

For District A, Morgan Hill business owner David Dindak and teacher/businesswoman Miriam T. Vega qualified for the Nov. 5 ballot, according to the ROV office. Incumbent Gino Borgioli is not running for reelection.

For District C, registered nurse Soraida Iwanaga and business owner/engineer Michael Orosco are running for the council seat. Incumbent Rene Spring decided earlier this year that he would not run for reelection.

Also on the Nov. 5 ballot is the Morgan Hill City Treasurer, with one candidate qualified: Cindy Rogers Murphy, according to the ROV office. The incumbent City Treasurer is Caitlin Robinett Jachimowicz.

Of the three seats on the Morgan Hill Unified School District Board of Education appearing on the ballot, only one incumbent is running for reelection. Mary Patterson, representing Trustee Area 6, will face challenger Rebecca Munson in the Nov. 5 election. Munson is listed as a “teacher/mother” on the ROV list.

In Trustee Area 5, the candidates are Tyler Smith (“entrepreneur/father”) and Jennifer Marquez (“executive assistant”). Incumbent Trustee Ivan Rosales Montes is not running for reelection, according to the list of qualified candidates.

In Trustee Area 7, Tom Pocus (“retired engineer/father”) and Veronica A. Andrade (“community college instructor”) are running for the MHUSD seat. Incumbent Adam Escoto is not running for reelection.

There are also three seats on the Gavilan Joint Community College District appearing on the Nov. 5 ballot. The candidates, according to the ROV office, are:

– Trustee Area 2: Alicia M. Cortez

– Trustee Area 4: Lorena Tariba and Alex Larson

– Trustee Area 6: Rachel Perez

Expected to draw a large turnout of voters in Santa Clara County and nationwide, the Nov. 5 general election ballot will be headlined by the offices of U.S. President, U.S. Senate and U.S. Congress, among dozens of state and regional offices.
