Sobrato faces Y.B., rooting for S.C.
SAN JOSE — On the same night first-place Mount Pleasant hosts Silver Creek, Sobrato hopes to gain ground in the West Valley Division standings at 7 p.m. tonight at Yerba Buena.
The Bulldogs (5-2 overall, 2-1 league) have won four of their last five, but that matters little if they don’t beat the Aztec Warriors (2-5, 2-2) and win at least a share of the conference crown.
Count their loss to Leigh as one of three games the playoff-less Live Oak Acorns wish they had back in 2008.
At 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the Mount Hamilton Division, they need a win just as badly this time around against the Longhorns (3-4, 1-3), who visit Richert Field at 7 p.m. today. The Acorns have to win two of their final three games to clinch a postseason spot.
Leigh graduated all-league quarterback Ryan Stillwell, but appears just as dangerous. Live Oak is missing two starting defensive backs: Dylan Frechette and Rich Martinez who this week had successfully brain surgery to remove a large cyst.
“The guys want to win this one. They’re rallying around Richie,” Live Oak coach Jon Michael Porras said Thursday.
Junior David Pelz will take over Frechette’s spot at quarterback. Frechette is recovering from a separated shoulder.
