With lawn chairs already beginning to line the parade route, it’s an annual indication that Morgan Hill Freedom Fest’s Fourth of July extravaganza is on the horizon.
From the Patriotic Sing and Family Music Fest to the Freedom Run and Car Cruise to the Parade and Fireworks Show, Morgan Hill puts on an Independence Day Celebration like few other cities do.
This year’s schedule is as follows:
July 3: Patriotic Sing & Family Music Fest
The celebration kicks off with the Patriotic Sing featuring children of the Morgan Hill community singing patriotic songs. The event begins at 6pm at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center Amphitheater, located at 17000 Monterey St.
The Family Music Fest begins at 7pm in Downtown Morgan Hill. Locals can dance into the night while listening to a variety of artists. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
July 4: Freedom Run, Car Cruise ’N Show and the Parade
The Freedom 5k Walk/Run will again start off the morning on the Fourth of July. Registration will be held at the City Hall parking lot. The kids’ 1-mile run begins at 7:45am and the 5k Walk/Run begins at 8am.
After the run, thousands of spectators take to the streets for the Car Cruise ’N Show and the Parade. The car cruise will lead off the parade at 9:30am, finishing with a car show at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center. The Historic Fourth of July Parade, with over 175 entries this year, runs through Downtown Morgan Hill.
(Road Closures: Monterey Road between East Dunne and Main Avenue will be closed, including side streets on the east and west sides of Monterey Road, from noon on July 3 through July 4 at 3pm. Depot Street and Del Monte between Dunne and Main Avenue will also be closed. Main Avenue from Monterey to Peak Avenue, Peak Avenue to West Dunne, and West Dunne to Monterey Road as well as Keystone and Del Monte will be closed for the parade route by 5am. Due to road closures, there will be no access in and out of the parking garage between 4am and 3pm.)
July 4: Fireworks on the Green
The grand finale of the Fourth of July festivities is the fireworks display. Fireworks on the Green will be held at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center, located at 16500 Condit Road.
Gates will open at 5pm, and the fireworks show will begin around 9:30pm. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
(Road Closures: Northbound Condit Road between the Aquatics Center and Dunne Avenue will be closed from 3:30pm to 11:30pm. Condit Road between Dunne Avenue and Tennant will be closed between 9pm and 11:30pm. Condit Road between Diana and Tennant will be closed between 9pm and 11:30pm. Murphy Avenue between Barrett and San Pedro will be closed on July 4 starting at 6am. Murphy Avenue from Dunne to Tennant will be closed from 9pm to 11:30pm. Morgan Hill police will be onsite to assist with traffic control.)
