SEMIPRO FOOTBALL: ’Stormers win 22-21 to climb above .500

Both local teams entering heart of league season
SOBRATO (2-3, 0-2) VS. GUNDERSON (3-2, 1-1), 7 P.M. TODAY

Homecoming games do not get any bigger for Sobrato than at 7 p.m. today against Gunderson.

After dropping their first two Santa Teresa Division games to front-runners Independence and Lincoln, the Bulldogs face a more even matchup, though, the game can go either way.

The Grizzlies battled in a loss to Westmont and looked impressive while beating up Evergreen Valley last week.

If the Bulldogs lose, they will need help to get back to the playoffs.

LIVE OAK (3-2, 1-1) AT HILL (0-5, 0-2), 7 P.M. TODAY

Just in time for the heart of its Mount Hamilton Division schedule, back-to-back games against Oak Grove and Piedmont Hills, Live Oak looked in top form last week while dismantling Pioneer 28-7.

That trend should continue against lowly Hill at 7 p.m. today in San Jose. The Falcons have yet to score more than 20 points in a game — a daunting task against the Acorns’ “Wolfpack” defense — and are nowhere near the level they were at as 2009 Santa Teresa Division champs.

Live Oak’s main goal is to not overlook Hill, though, it probably won’t affect the outcome.
