FIELD HOCKEY: Seniors do best to delay Del Mar’s title run

Jackson recognized for offense, defense
MORGAN HILL — Ralph Jackson, Joel Rueda and Obi Mbonu highlighted a record showing for Sobrato football on the West Valley Division all-league lists.

On top of the Bulldogs receiving six first- and second-teams nods, Jackson, Rueda and Mbonu earned special-recognition awards. Jackson and Rueda, both seniors, were honored as the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Back and Defensive Lineman, respectively, and Mbonu was named Sophomore of the Year.

It marked the largest postseason-awards haul for the Bulldogs, who finished a program-best 8-3 overall and second place in league at 5-1. Their second postseason run ended with a 48-0 loss to Wilcox in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs.

Jackson was recognized for his offensive play as well, earning all-league honors as running back. The team’s leading rusher was joined on the first-team list by quarterback Patrick Bacciarelli, wide receiver Chris Bradley, offensive lineman Mandeep Bains and linebacker Ryan Brewer — all seniors. Junior defensive back Daniel Puna also has been named a first-teamer.

Sobrato’s second-team selections included seniors Marcus Patrick, linebacker; Vincent Alfonseca, tight end; and offensive lineman Glenn Patterson. They were joined by junior linebacker Jacob Molina, junior offensive lineman Gustavo Ramirez and sophomore offensive lineman Skyler King.
