Behind 401 yards from Trevor Bearden, the Live Oak football team improved to 5-0 on the season Friday, beating Westmont 35-25.
The Acorns pounded the ball all night, handing the football to Bearden 34 times, as the junior scored all five Live Oak touchdowns. Live Oak threw the ball only three times in the victory.
“We went into the game knowing that we wanted to run the football,” head coach Mike Gemo said. “And we did just that.”
Things started well for Live Oak on the opening drive.
On Bearden’s first touch, the junior dodged Westmont defenders for a 60-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage.
The play set the tone for Live Oak in the easy win.
The Acorns jumped out a 21-6 halftime lead before strolling to the 35-25 final. The Acorns defense, once again, came up. Despite giving up 25 points, the Acorns limited the Westmont offense throughout the day, Gemo said.
“It was a great team effort,” he said. “It’s an exciting win.”
Look for more soon.
