For the first time in the school’s history, the Sobrato Bulldogs will enter league play as a member of the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mount Hamilton Division when they travel to Willow Glen on Friday.

After a much-needed bye, the game comes at a perfect time Sobrato, head coach Nick Borello said. The team is now well-rested and they finally have the taste of its last-minute El Toro Bowl loss out of their mouths.

Two weeks later, the team has moved on to other season-long goals.

“We have multiple team goals, one of them is winning the El Toro Bowl. But it’s not the end all be all of our season,” Borello said. “We have not won a playoff game at this school so far. A deep run in the playoffs is our team goal.”

Against Willow Glen, the key will be slowing down the offense led by Toscano. In last week’s 37-20 win over San Benito High, Toscano completed 19 of his 21 passes. In three games, he has rushed for a team-high 216 yards on 50 carries.

“They are a top-level team and a top-level program,” Borello said. “They kind of took it to (San Benito). That short passing game is what we’ve been planing for all week. Hopefully, we have a good game plan to keep that under control.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Willow Glen High School in San Jose.

LIVE OAK FOOTBALL

After its by week, the 3-0 Live Oak football team will be back in action tonight, hosting Mt. Pleasant in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division opener for both schools.

The Acorns are two weeks removed from their come-from-behind victory over rival Sobrato in the sixth annual El Toro Bowl and should carry some of that left over momentum against the Cardinals.

Mt. Pleasant (1-2) is also coming off of a bye week, that following a 6-0 loss to Evergreen Valley.
