A home in unincorporated west Morgan Hill was destroyed by a fire Wednesday evening, according to authorities.

Firefighters and equipment from multiple agencies first arrived at the structure fire on Loma Chiquita Road near Casa Loma Road about 5:30pm Oct. 30. A 1,000-square-foot home was on fire, and the flames had begun to spread to surrounding vegetation, CalFire Battalion Chief Jim Crawford said.

Although firefighters and equipment—including aircraft—were able to contain the blaze in less than an hour, the home was “a total loss,” Crawford said. The flames destroyed only “a small spot” of vegetation before they were contained.

“They had good defensible space around the house,” Crawford said.

Crews from Morgan Hill, CalFire, Santa Clara County and Santa Cruz County responded to the fire. Aircraft dropped flame retardant on the fire before ground crews arrived, Crawford said.

No injuries were reported. Crawford said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
