Dear Editor,
Did you know that along with the newly built Ann Sobrato High School, came a new agriculture department? This meant that we could have a new FFA Chapter in Morgan Hill. After voting, we came up with Morgan Hill-Sobrato FFA. Some people think that FFA is all about pitchforks and overalls…I will assure you it’s not! There are many career choices in agriculture. You can be anything from a teacher to a president of your own company.
This past year has been a tremendous success! There were about 60 students, including myself, in the agriculture classes, becoming charter members for our chapter. Students had the opportunity to purchase, and raise an animal to sell at auction for the Santa Clara County Fair. That was a success in itself! We had a few teams, and members that went to UC Davis, and Cal Poly for competitions! We kids had the opportunity to go to State Conference; which is a statewide convention with many people just like us. There you can do many things, from going to seminars, riding mechanical bulls, going to dances, and meeting new people, with your interests. You may have even seen us in the Fourth of July parade!
We have two excellent advisors, Vera Gomes, and Lindsey Kovach, and many eager students. We hope this year is going to be just as fun – if not more than last year…but we can’t do that unless you- the community – get involved; so “Come on and enjoy the fun”!
