“Soaring to New Heights” in Dallas was the setting for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference where 5,200 members and advisers gathered from throughout the United States, DODDS Europe, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

The Awards of Excellence was the climax as the Chapter eagerly awaited for the results of the Community Service Project competition – Croy Canyon ecology restoration and helping the fire victims with the help of the business community. The screeches of joy resounded as Live Oak placed third.

Live Oak competed against 64 chapters nationwide – the chapters with the top two projects from each state.

For the preliminaries, team members Inga Huang, Alana Lee and Celica Sanchez, gave two-minute presentation about the project after which there were five minutes of questions and answers. At this point, the field was narrowed to 10 chapters. Then, for the finals, they gave a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation about the project with another five minutes of questions and answers.

Keynote speaker Rick Rigsby opened the conference making a great impact, not an impression, as he inspired the audience with an electrifying presentation. He encouraged the entire delegation to pursue excellence and make an impact on life, not just an impression.

Students and advisers attended a variety of workshops such as “The Power of Positive Thinking: Change Your Life by Changing Your Mind,” Managing Your Stress,” “Business Ethics,” Diversity-Making Good Business Sense,” Speech and Handwriting Recognition-The Future Is Here,” Socializing for Success, “Mastering Manners as a Business Tool,” “Invest in Your Health for Better Business,” etc.
