Local families fill the El Toro Room at the Community and Cultural Center for the inaugural Kindergarten Roundup event hosted by the Morgan Hill Unified School District Jan. 28.

More than 300 families attended Morgan Hill Unified School District’s inaugural “Kindergarten Roundup” event, which was held Jan. 28 at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center.
“We had a fantastic turnout and are pleased with the results,” Superintendent Steve Betando said. “Anytime you make big changes, there is a lot of uncertainty, but with the feedback we’ve already received and the number of families that came through we know it was the right decision and have already begun the planning process for next year.”
Along with picking up a priority enrollment packet, families were able to speak to school principals and teachers, have their child assessed for Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten readiness, register for a public library card, check out books and learn about YMCA programs.
“It’s clear to us that parents want to know if their child is ready to enter the classroom and in what areas they may need additional help before the fall,” said Glen Webb, MHUSD’s Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.
Parents who attended the Roundup were able to pick up priority numbered enrollment packets for their school of residence. For parents who are unable to attend, school sites will continue to distribute priority numbered Kinder and TK enrollment packets until Feb. 27.
Completed priority packets must be returned to the school of residence on or before Feb. 27 in order to maintain the priority numbering. All priority numbers will be void on Feb. 28. Packets turned in on or after Feb. 28 will be date and time stamped and placed in the order they are received.
Parents who wish to transfer their kindergartener from their school of residence into another school within MHUSD must first register their child at their school of residence. They will then need to complete an intradistrict transfer request form and bring it to the district office on or after April 6. The District will not be accepting transfer requests for kindergarten prior to this date.
Enrollment packets for first through 12th grades will be available Feb. 16, online at MHUSD.org as well as at all of our school campuses.
For more information on the registration process, call the Enrollment Center at (408) 201-6030.
