District officials announced a key change to its enrollment procedure for incoming transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students with priority placement rewarded to parents who attend a Jan. 28 Kindergarten Roundup.
Those parents who participate in the inaugural event, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon inside the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center (17000 Monterey Road), will receive a “priority numbered enrollment packet for their school of residence and will have their child assessed for kindergarten readiness.”
“Parents with priority numbered enrollment packets will be able to register their child before the Feb. 28 district-wide enrollment date,” according to a Jan. 18 press release. “Priority enrollment is only for kindergarten and transitional kindergarten students for their school of residence and does not have any bearing on intradistrict transfers.”
At Morgan Hill Unified School District’s Jan. 28 event, staff will offer parents an “exciting glimpse into kindergarten and transitional kindergarten classes in Morgan Hill.”
Parents will also learn what their child will need to know before they enter the classroom and how to help them succeed in school.
For parents who are unable to attend the Kindergarten Roundup, school sites will continue to distribute priority numbered kindergarten and TK enrollment packets until Feb. 27. If parents are unaware of their school of residence, they can find it by going to the district website (mhusd.org) and clicking on the “Find Your School” tab. Completed priority packets must be returned to the school of residence on or before Feb. 27 in order to maintain the priority numbering. All priority numbers will be void on Feb. 28.
Packets turned in on or after Feb. 28 will be date and time stamped and placed in the order they are received.
Parents who wish to transfer their kindergartner from their school of residence into another school within MHUSD must first register their child at their school of residence. They will then need to complete an intradistrict transfer request form and bring it to the district office on or after April 6. The district will not be accepting transfer requests for kindergarten prior to April 6.
