Common sense seems to take a vacation when it comes to building a new high school in Morgan Hill.

Why on earth would anyone even consider building a new school off Monterey Road? Try commuting a few days, especially when accidents close or seriously impede traffic on Highway 101. Even with the new lanes added, it will still be a mess and commuters will use Monterey Road to avoid it.

Imagine hundreds of new high school drivers adding to this congestion. From what is being said, there is some doubt cast as to the need for a second high school.

If a new high school is really needed, why not in the Tennant and Murphy area? It makes so much more sense. Forget the Sobrato property, which was part of the green belt, and should stay that way. It’s a totally inappropriate place for a high school.

Better yet, why not retro-fit Live Oak and add a second or third story to the building? What rule says a school must be only one story high? Save on land and the utilities are already in place. We have one principal, and of course more teachers will be needed. It’s bound to be a savings, but of course its only taxpayers money, so why bother trying to be sensible about spending it.

Just for the record, I’m not new to Morgan Hill, I’ve lived here nearly 27 years. To the school trustees and powers that be, I say please spend the tax money wisely. Enlarge the existing Live Oak High School, instead of having two smaller schools competing against each other and costing everyone dearly.
