Approximately 200 local residents and their four-legged friends visited Morgan Hill’s Community and Cultural Center on Saturday to help raise funds for a new dog park in the city. The successful effort grossed $7,400 according to Gloria Zufall, an organizer with the Dog Owner’s Group (D.O.G).

“It was a total blast,” she said. “It was a riot to see all the different dogs – they’re colors, shapes and sizes – all together at one time with their owners.”

But the money is just a drop in the bucket of what’s needed to make the dream of a leashless dog park a reality, she said. The group hopes to raise $75,000 for the park by the summer of 2006 and plans to do so with several other events currently being conceived.

“We’re all hopeful and think it will happen,” Zufall said. “It’s just a fantastic project and worth doing.”
