Dear Editor,
I thought that the Sabrato High School staff was talking about a block schedule where Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes would be normal and on Tuesday and Thursday you’d have these special “block” schedules.
I was wrong. They are talking about having class three times one week and twice another. There are so many problems with that but the most evident is the loss of time in the classroom.
Under the schedule right now you have 59 minutes classes five times a week. Over two weeks you have 590 minutes of education.
Under the block schedule you would have 95 minutes class three times for one week and two times the next week. Over a two-week period that gives you only 475 minutes of education.
You lose 115 minutes of education over two weeks. No way can that be good for our children. If we have 180 days of school, that gives us 36 weeks of class and we’d be losing nearly 58 minutes of education a week.
We need to help our students. Taking away time in the classroom is not the answer.
