A new agreement between the Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers and the Morgan Hill Unified School District is expected to be finalized by the board of education at the April 18 meeting.
MHFT members already did their part with an April 13 vote for approval with a vote tally of 259 in favor, and 15 members against.
Among the negotiated terms of the contract are a 6 percent raise, retroactive to July 1, 2016, for the current 2016-17 school year and a 3 percent raise for the 2017-18 school year along with a one-time payment of $726 to members in May 2017.
Morgan Hill’s classified union as well as the Morgan HIll Educational Leaders Association members will also receive a $726 one-time payment. Both items are listed on the April 18 agenda described as side letters.
Also listed on a full agenda for April’s only meeting are:
• 2017 Summer School report;
• Career and College Pathways, Development and Progress;
• $24,000 contract with Gene Bregman & Associates for parcel tax polling services;
• Letter of intent from the Charter School of Morgan Hill to apply for Proposition 51 funding through the Office of Public School Construction for rehabilitation of the Encinal School site;
• Transitional Kindergarten Program for 2017-18;
• Support of AB 1182 Teacher Housing Assistant Pilot Program; and
• Board policy subcommittee.
Personnel Order
It will be another busy recruiting season for district staff after the latest personnel order, attached to the April 18 agenda, which lists 11 teacher resignations and six year-long, approved leaves among certificated employees.
This follows a previous order with 11 teachers announcing their retirement from the district.
Additionally, there are 10 retirements for classified workers, including four paraprofessionals, two school office assistants, a health assistant, bus driver, food service lead and maintenance foreperson.
Consent items
Construction contracts were handed out for the plethora of district school site projects, including:
• $126,500 with AAA Fence Co., Inc for installation at Jackson Academy of Math and Music and El Toro Elementary School;
• $2,062,939 with Kent Construction for the Paradise Valley Modular Classrooms and Sitework Project;
• $63,245 with Dryco Construction, Inc. for the resurfacing of tennis courts at Live Oak High School;
• $1,696,916 with Southwest Construction for roof replacement at El Toro Elementary School; and
• $44,040 of testing and inspection services with Hazmat Doc, Cleary Consultants and HP Inspections for Paradise Valley Engineering Academy projects.
