For my entire life, up to know, I have been a democrat. I have just completed my re-registration as a republican.
The reason for this is quite simple; it is to vote for Pete McClosky in the republican primary for congressman from the 11th district. There are two reasons for this, one negative and the other positive.
The negative reason is that I see it as very important to defeat Richard Pombo. He is a disaster both to the country and to our district. It is very important to get him out, both for the benefit of the district and to end his attacks on the environment and his questionable financial dealings.
The positive one is that Pete McClosky is a terrific candidate. When I lived in Palo Alto he was our representative.
He stood for the environment and was in constant contact with the district both to determine what we were thinking and to tell us what was going on from his point of view. He never pulled punches.
I am asking the registered republicans and independents to vote for Pete McClosky and for democrats to consider doing the same in the primary. Let’s elect a congressman we can be proud of.
