Red Phone, I am wondering if there is a plan to add crosswalks
to the Mission Avenida and Cochrane Road intersection. This area
does see a bit of foot traffic to and from the Target center.

“Red Phone, I am wondering if there is a plan to add crosswalks to the Mission Avenida and Cochrane Road intersection. This area does see a bit of foot traffic to and from the Target center.”

Red Phone: Dear Walk Safe, Mission Avenida and Cochrane Road do not intersect. Perhaps you mean the intersection of Mission View Drive and Cochrane Road. So Red Phone contacted Scott Creer, senior civil engineer with the city, who said this intersection will be signalized with the completion of phase II of the Target Center project.

“At that time, crosswalks will be installed across all four legs of the intersection.”

There you have it, good caller. Hope that answers your question.

What does Alien Technology do?

“Hey Red Phone, I travel Butterfield Boulevard a lot and I’ve always wondered what it is Alien Technology does. They sure have a huge building out there. Can you help?”

Red Phone: Dear Wondering, that’s a good question. Red Phone checked out the company’s Web site to get some information. In a nutshell, the company provides Radio Frequency Identification products and services to customers in retail, consumer goods, manufacturing, defense, transportation and logistics, pharmaceuticals and other industries. Organizations use the RFID products and services to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and security of their supply chains and asset tracking operations. Alien’s products include RFID tags, RFID readers and related training and professional services.

If you’re like Red Phone, that description is great if you’re in the industry and know what it means. So Red Phone contacted Victor Vega, the company’s marketing director, who explained further what it is they do. Essentially, RFI products are the next generation of bar codes that allow for the product to be followed through the supply chain.

“It has not only the same information as a bar code, but it has a unique identifier so you can have automatic inventory control,” he said.

For example, the tags could be used by medical marijuana dispensaries so each product is uniquely labeled and in a master database so that it can be tracked through the supply chain.

Vega said Alien employs about 50 people at the corporate headquarters in Morgan Hill.

Good caller, hope that answers your question.
