Jan and Jack Hagemann and Tara Moore, volunteers with the Mt. Madonna YMCA in Morgan Hill, are among 18 volunteers from the YMCA of Santa Clara Valley who will be honored at the annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner, to be held on Tuesday, May 27.

The volunteers to be honored have donated a combined total of over 100 years of service to the YMCA. More than 300 contributors, community leaders and staff are scheduled to attend the dinner event.

“Volunteers of all ages take the time to work with people of all ages, engaging them in positive activities and are true role models,” said Christina Glynn, spokeswoman for the YMCA of Santa Clara Valley.

“The YMCA is a volunteer-based organization, and this type of work is particularly significant to our mission,” she said.

The Hagemanns have worked tirelessly for the Mt. Madonna YMCA and are passionately committed to the Y mission and values, Glynn said. Jan is vice chair of the Board of Managers, and Chair of the Financial Development Committee.

Both Hagemanns have volunteered for the past eight years raising funds for the Mt. Madonna Community Support Campaign, motivating campaigners through example and helping with board development at the branch. Jack was instrumental in putting the Mt. Madonna YMCA “on the map”, creating signage for the branch in the form of a lighted marquee-style sign. They both look forward to the summer, so they can devote more time to volunteering at the YMCA.

Tara Moore, a senior at Live Oak High School, has been a longtime participant of YMCA programs. As a child, she was involved with gymnastics, youth sports and aquatics at the Y. Viewing her experience as a way to help others, she began volunteering with the Mt. Madonna YMCA five years ago.

Tara has donated her time in the Y office, and as a youth sports referee, lifeguard, swim instructor and working with children in other ways. As a champion of the Y’s core values of Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility, she loves working with youth on the Migrant Baseball League, in Child Watch and during Easter Egg Hunts and Lunch with Santa at the Mt. Madonna YMCA.

In 1998, Tara began volunteering on the Community Support Campaign and the very next year as team captain raised funds toward scholarships for those who might otherwise not beable to afford Y programs.

During the past five years, Tara has been the Mt. Madonna YMCA’s youngest and one of the most dedicated and successful campaigners. In addition to her involvement with the YMCA, Tara also participates on the Live Oak High School water polo team, the drama club, swim team, the soccer team and Art a la Carte. Her brother Tom was awarded the branch’s Teen Volunteer of the Year award in 2000, and her mom Angela is a community support campaigner and a member of the fitness staff.

Tickets for the event are $45 per person and will be held at the new Downtown San Jose Marriott Hotel. Details: YMCA of Santa Clara Valley at 298-3888.
