EDITOR: I was unable to attend the last City Council meeting. I
have been told by people that had attended the meeting that there
had been comments made in a threatening nature by some of the local
residents that live close to the library. In specific, it was told
to the City Council that if they did not vote in the way the small
group of local residents want them to, that none of the city
council would be re-elected.

I was unable to attend the last City Council meeting. I have been told by people that had attended the meeting that there had been comments made in a threatening nature by some of the local residents that live close to the library. In specific, it was told to the City Council that if they did not vote in the way the small group of local residents want them to, that none of the city council would be re-elected. There was even an individual that stated to the city council that if the vote did not go their way they could bury them – I’m not sure what that meant but it doesn’t sound very nice.
What disturbs me is that our City Council should not have to make decisions based on threats and fear. This kind of street rough tactic hurts the entire community – if our City Council makes decisions on threats and fear then that is an injustice to every one and only will benefit that small group who is making the threat. I think it is clear that if our government officials made decisions based on threats and fear it would be a much different world to live in.
The City Council must stand up and do what is right for the entire community; for all the people, not for a small portion of the residential community.
Do not fear the voice of threats, for every person making that threat there are two of us supporting you. The bully in school was a single person with a loud voice – but the majority of us even though silent still knew inside that we would not be pushed around and would not let our friends be pushed around.
You as a City Council must make the best decision for the entire community not a decision based on threats and the fear of not being re-elected.
As a final thought there are always options. Important decisions can always be made after re-election.
