“Hey Red Phone, thank you for answering my dog question and telling me where to find the documents I needed. I have a feeling everything is going to be better soon. Now I have a new question. I drove through downtown the other day and I noticed they’re taking out some of the concrete blocks from the median at Third Street and Monterey Road and they’ve closed a lane in each direction again. What’s going on now?”
Red Phone: Dear What’s Going On, Red Phone contacted Yat Cho, associate engineer with the city, who said a few of the granite pavers recently installed with the Third Street project had come loose.
“Upon further investigation it was determined to be a workmanship problem and if not corrected would cause long-term maintenance and safety problems,” Cho said. “The city’s contractor is now fixing the problem at his cost. The work is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 21.”
There you have it, good caller.

“I’ve lived in Morgan Hill for more than 60 years and time and again I see cars and cyclists roll through stop signs as if ‘stop’ doesn’t mean a thing. Red Phone, I want to know if the police or city have trackers underneath stop signs like stop lights, and what’s the law for cyclists? Do they have to stop or can they ride right through stop signs? It’s dangerous!”
Red Phone: Dear Longtimer, first off, there are no sensors in the streets nor cameras to catch stop sign or red light runners. Second, Red Phone too has seen numerous motorists roll through stop signs and run red lights, but perhaps the most frustrating offense today are those who continue to talk on their cell phones without a wireless device.
As far as cyclists, they are required to obey all laws of the road. Unfortunately, many do not, creating another hazard.
Good caller, hope that helps.
