I had the opportunity to visit with the state Regional Water Quality Control Board and review the Llagas Creek Project. This is an important project for this community. I was however disappointed to learn that no trails are planned along the creek from Main Avenue to Dunne Avenue.
I believe without trails we will not be able to provide a unique and alternative access route from Britton, P.A .Wash, St Catherine’s school and the proposed new library to Paradise Valley School, Community Park and the proposed new indoor sports center.
The project manager that I spoke with at the Taste indicated that there has been little interaction or interest in trails in this area. Public Works Director Jim Ashcroft represents this city on this project but I am afraid he has been focused on flood control; yet having made presentations before the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Bicycle and Trails Advisory Commission, I can assure you that there is considerable interest in trails along this creekside corridor.
I hope the council will look into this matter and preserve one of our most vital natural resources.
