Claiming unfair cuts in retirement and medical benefits, about 40 employees of Gilroy's Nob Hill Foods picketed outside the store during an abnormal November heat wave on Sunday afternoon.

MH Community Foundation honors volunteers and philanthropists, awards $10,000 grants
The Morgan Hill Community Foundation is preparing for National Philanthropy Month in November, by hosting its annual “Outstanding Philanthropist” awards, Nov. 9, at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center. The evening celebration will shine a spotlight on the multiple volunteers and philanthropists who are nominated by their peers as exemplary contributors to the Morgan Hill community. A typical honoree is a person who may have worked numerous volunteer hours or may have provided financial support. This year’s honoree list and the groups nominating them are:
McDonald’s fundraiser raises $900 for El Roble
McDonald's restaurant in Gilroy donated $900 to El Roble Elementary School as part of their McTeacher's Night fundraiser, which took place Wednesday evening, Oct. 24.
San Martin/Gwinn receives garden grant from Uesugi Farms
On Oct. 24, the San Martin/Gwinn Elementary School Garden received a grant from Western Growers Foundation and Uesugi Farms. The presentation took place at 11 a.m. in the garden and included the students of Mrs. Moore's fourth-grade class, members of the Western Growers Foundation, and Associates of Uesugi Farms.
