Water district to discuss ag rates Tuesday

At their upcoming board meeting, the Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of Directors will discuss the Open Space Credit, which provides funding to keep agricultural water rates low. The ag water rate countywide is currently $17.70 per acre foot compared to the municipal and industrial rate of $295 in South County and $622 in North County.

Automatic budget cuts are increasingly likely

Rhoades Ranch to be designated on historic registry

The California State Historical Commission will consider giving Morgan Hill's Rhoades Ranch a “National Register of Historic Places” designation at 9 a.m. Friday at the Secretary of State Auditorium, located at 1500 11th St. in Sacramento. The public is invited to present oral statements at the hearing at the appropriate time. Written comments may also be submitted to the following address:

Cell phone drive benefits soldiers

The Live Oak High School Patriot Club is conducting its annual Cell Phone for Soldiers drive.  Drop off any cell phones, working or not, at Live Oak High School, 1505 E. Main Ave.  Each cell phone turned in, is exchanged for a calling card that is sent to one of our troops abroad. Details: Paula Haaser at [email protected].

Britton student takes first at science fair

Kyle Zentner won first place in the middle school division of the Pauchon Foundation Science Fair hosted at Oakwood School Jan. 31. He took home $100 for his project “Extracting Energy from Ocean Waves.” This is the second year in a row that a student from Britton Middle School has placed first. Jim Levis and George Flores, who are the instructors for Zentner’s eighth-grade class, have helped their students to demonstrate science proficiency exceeding the statewide average by six percent.
