Sobrato Boosters meeting set for today
On Tuesday, Feb. 15, the Sobrato High Athletic Boosters will be having a meeting at 7pm at Sobrato High in the ASB room. Organizers will be going over plans for the next big Bulldog fundraiser: Casino Night on June 4 at Coyote Ranch, which will include a Raffle and Silent Auction, and winter sports awards. SCBA begins new session
The South County Basketball Academy Spring session begins Saturday, March 5.
The fee for returning players is $85 and for new players the fee is $105. There is a late fee for applications postmarked or delivered after Feb. 28. Practices and games in this Saturday only league runs until May 21.

MH Pride coaches needed
The Pride of Morgan Hill Girls Fastpitch Softball Club is now accepting applications for B division coaches for the Summer 2005 season. Pride is looking for coaches in all age groups, including 10s, 12s, 14s, and 16s. The league will accept applications until Friday, Feb. 25. All coaches need to be ASA-certified in 2005 to qualify. Clinics are currently running and can be seen on the ASA website at www.norcal-asa.org. The clinics are only two hours long. The league will form B division teams out of the Spirit recreational league, so girls must play MH Spirit softball to qualify to play for Pride B division play.

SSJYSL tryouts
Tryouts for the South San Jose Youth Soccer League will be held Saturday, March. 5. Tryouts for girls will be held from 10am to 11:30am, and for boys from 12:30pm to 2pm at the following locations: Boys and girls aged 9-10 at Oakridge Elementary; boys and girls ages 11-12 at Martin Murphy; and boys and girls ages 13-14 at Bernal.

OVYSL tryouts
The Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League is holding tryouts for competitive U15-U19 teams on Feb. 26-27. There is no fee for tryouts. Also, the OVYSL is accepting registrations for spring soccer for U6-U12 recreational players. The season runs from April 9 through May 28.

MH’s USYVL signups
Registration is now being accepted for the United States Youth Volleyball League’s Spring season in Morgan Hill. The USYVL is an instructional volleyball league that operates in a co-ed format for boys and girls ages 8-14. The USYVL season runs for eight weeks at Paradise Park and Galvan Park, beginning in April and ending in June.

Taylor Made camps
Taylor Made Baseball Pitching Mini-Camps begin once a month through May and run for four consecutive weeks. Each class is one hour (four total hours). Player to coach ratio is 4:1. The camps will be held indoors in Morgan Hill. Each player is filmed and receives a DVD.
Focus is on developing proper throwing and pitching mechanics. Camps are taught by Rich Taylor.
Cost is $99 per camp which includes a DVD and a pitching book ( while supply lasts). Camps are held on Thursday evenings.

Gav coach urges help for tsunami disaster victims
Gavilan College men’s basketball assistant coach Michael Baumgartner is urging members of the local community to pitch in and help out with the relief effort for victims of the Dec. 26 earthquake/tsunami in the Indian Ocean.
Baumgartner, whose family sponsors underprivileged children through the charitable organizations Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org) and World Vision (www.wvus.org), suggests those two Web sites as a starting point for those who wish to give “a few pennies” to the effort.

MH Swim Club tryouts
The Morgan Hill Swim Club has begun its 44th straight year of representing the Morgan Hill community in USA Swimming.
Tryouts for the team are open to any individual age 6 to 18 are held at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center every Monday through Friday at 5pm.
Monthly dues begin at no more than $75, with sibling and year round discount programs offered.
The team has been named as the host team for the 2005 Far Western Championships to be held in Morgan Hill from March 31 through April 3.
