the first game 18-3 and the second 15-3 behind strong hitting
performances by Chelsea Hrupek, Cecilia Sinohui, Melanie Woodson,
Casey Post, and Caroline Amaya. On Monday, Sobrato beat Mitty 6-2
as Casey Post amassed 10 strikeouts. She also had a two-run single.
Meanwhile, the Lady Acorns also won a pair of games, beating Los
Gatos 18-1 with a season-high 23 hits, and outlasting Hollister-San
Benito 9-8 in extra innings.

Against the league rival Haybalers, LO scored three runs in the seventh inning to send the game into overtime. Shannon Byron-Brown had two doubles and ChereRae Prejean drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning for LO. Tricia Goularte had 11 strikeouts.

Olympic Development Program tryouts continue this weekend

For the second straight weekend, hundreds of the region’s top youth soccer players will get a chance to showcase their skills during tryouts for the District II ODP at the Morgan Hill Soccer Complex on Saturday and Sunday. Tryouts begin at 9am and continue into the afternoon.

Vintage Base Ball League to make appearance atSanta Clara University as part of inaugural season-opener

In its inaugural season opener, the Bay Area Vintage Base Ball League will be one of the featured attractions at Santa Clara University’s Community Day celebration at the university’s new Stephen Schott Stadium on Sunday.

After beginning the opener at Community Park in Morgan Hill in a 9am start, the BAVBBL’s two teams – the South County Jaspers and the San Jose Dukes will travel to Santa Clara to play the remainder of the contest. Santa Clara hosts Gonzaga at 1pm on Sunday.

The BAVBBL is dedicated to preserving old-time baseball, and players use reproduction equipment including baseballs, bats, gloves, and uniforms.

Teams are scheduled to play every other Sunday and the season runs through September.

The league is currently looking for more players.

Pride of MH softball tryouts Sunday

The Pride of Morgan Hill Girls Softball will be having tryouts for its 10, 12, 14 and 16 age-group B-level competitive teams on Sunday, May 1 at the San Martin School practice fields. Age group tryouts will be held at the following times: noon for 10U and 12U teams; and 2:30pm for 14U and 16U teams.

B-team coaches for the 2005 Summer Season are Gene Ciraulo (10U); Fred Cisneros (12U); Wes Hillman (14U). Parents need to come to sign up the players.

All players should bring water, sweatshirt and their playing gear. To form a second team in any age group, the coach may call a second tryout. The Pride of Morgan Hill plays competitive tournament softball, and travels through the summer season from May through July.

Mushroom Mardi Gras Runs May 28

The annual Mushroom Mardi Gras 10k Race and 5k Fun Run-Walk will take place again this year on Saturday, May 28. The race will start at 8:30am. There will be a new starting location: the Ranger Station at the corner of Malaguerra and Morning Star near Cochrane Road in Morgan Hill. Race Day registration starts at 7am. Beautiful Hunting Hollow will be the site for the Henry W. Coe 5K/10K Run on Saturday, June 11 at 9am. Deadline for preregistration is Saturday, June 4.
