Bobcat boys hoops squad defeated Chaboya-San Jose 53-46 to win the
East Hill league title on Thursday. Last weekend, Britton swept the
9th annual Gilroy shutout by winning three games and by defeating
Ocala-San Jose 56-19 in the finals. This is the third Britton
basketball championship in four years, joining the 2001 7th grade
boys team coached by Jim Feldman, the 2003 7th grade girls team
coached by Nancy Altman, and this year’s edition.

The members of the team were Chris Bradley, Bryan Bradley, Charley Bynum, Matt Carroll, Ryan Williams, Danny Jensen, Drew Johnson, Tommy Standridge,Brian Hoang, Robby Coy, Alex Avon and Adam Guerra. The scorekeepers were Jenny Long and Ariana Guerrero. The team was coached by Jim Green.
South County Basketball Academy begins new session
The South County Basketball Academy Spring session begins Saturday, March 5.
The fee for returning players is $85 and for new players the fee is $105. There is a late fee for applications postmarked or delivered after Feb. 28. Practices and games in this Saturday only league runs until May 21.

Lady Rams luncheon
People who support women’s athletics programs are invited to attend the Inaugural 2005 “Lady Rams” Luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 23, noon-1pm at Eagle Ridge Golf Club, 2951 Club Drive, Gilroy. The Keynote Speaker is Ms. Janice Richard, Women’s Basketball Coach at San Jose State University. Tickets are $35 per person.
“We are excited about bringing awareness to our women’s athletics programs at Gavilan College,” said Ron Hannon, Gavilan College Director of Athletics. “In keeping with the mission of Gavilan College, we want to provide competitive and comprehensive opportunities for female student-athletes in this community. I hope the community will embrace this opportunity to share their support as well.”

Gavilan Niners hold January Ace Day
The Gavilan Niners held their January Ace Day on Jan. 27, at Gavilan Golf Course. Ace was Opal Imprescia, Gilroy, net 37. Low putts went to Pat Cordich, Gilroy, with 15.
Marlene Sherwin, Morgan Hill, was the overall Club Champion for the 2004 year. Irene Rodriguez, San Jose, had the lowest putts for the 2004 short course season.
The Gavilan Niners play each Thursday morning at the Gavilan Golf Course in Gilroy. Tee time is at 9am.

New El Toro Assistant Coach
El Toro Aquatics is excited to announce their new assistant coach, Chris Henry. Chris has over 15 years coaching experience and is a favorite among most kids. El Toro Aquatics is a year-round competitive swim program, and practices daily at the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center between the hours of 4-5:30pm.

MH Pride coaches needed
The Pride of Morgan Hill Girls Fastpitch Softball Club is now accepting applications for B division coaches for the Summer 2005 season. Pride is looking for coaches in all age groups, including 10s, 12s, 14s, and 16s. The league will accept applications until Friday, Feb. 25. All coaches need to be ASA-certified in 2005 to qualify. Clinics are currently running and can be seen on the ASA website at www.norcal-asa.org. The clinics are only two hours long. The league will form B division teams out of the Spirit recreational league, so girls must play MH Spirit softball to qualify to play for Pride B division play.

Tryouts for the South San Jose Youth Soccer League will be held Saturday, March. 5. Tryouts for girls will be held from 10am to 11:30am, and for boys from 12:30pm to 2pm at the following locations: Boys and girls aged 9-10 at Oakridge Elementary; boys and girls ages 11-12 at Martin Murphy; and boys and girls ages 13-14 at Bernal.

OVYSL tryouts, signups
The Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League is holding tryouts for competitive U9-U14 teams this weekend, Feb. 12-13. For U15-U19 teams, tryouts are Feb. 26-27. In the event of rain on either weekend, an additional tryout takes place March 5-6. There is no fee for tryouts. Also, the OVYSL is accepting registrations for spring soccer for U6-U12 recreational players. The season runs from April 9 through May 28.

MH Swim Club tryouts
The Morgan Hill Swim Club has begun its 44th straight year of representing the Morgan Hill community in USA Swimming. Tryouts for the team are open to any individual age 6 to 18 are held at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center every Monday through Friday at 5 PM. Monthly dues begin at no more than $75, with sibling and year-round discount programs offered. The team was awarded national status for the second straight year as a bronze level club by USA Swimming, and has been named as the host team for the 2005 Far Western Championships to be held in Morgan Hill from March 31 through April 3.

MH’s USYVL signups
Registration is now being accepted for the United States Youth Volleyball League’s Spring season in Morgan Hill. The USYVL is an instructional volleyball league that operates in a co-ed format for boys and girls ages 8-14. The USYVL season runs for eight weeks at Paradise Park and Galvan Park, beginning in April and ending in June.

Taylor Made Baseball camps
Taylor Made Baseball Pitching Mini-Camps begin once a month through May and run for four consecutive weeks. Each class is one hour (four total hours). Player to coach ratio is 4:1. The camps will be held indoors in Morgan Hill. Each player is filmed and receives a DVD. Focus is on developing proper throwing and pitching mechanics. Camps are taught by Rich Taylor. Cost is $99 per camp which includes a DVD and a pitching book ( while supply lasts). Camps are held on Thursday evenings. Payment is due prior to camp.
