Softball tryouts

Fall basketball

Registration is now being accepted for the Fall SCBA Basketball program. Games and practices are held on Saturdays only from Sept. 6 through Nov. 1. Applications can be picked at all Morgan Hill unified Schools, www.scbabasketball.org or by calling 408 460-7402.

Boosters golf tournament

The Live Oak High School Athletic Boosters Club will be presenting its first annual Golf Classic this fall.

Scheduled for Friday, October 3, the tournament will be played at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course and Country Club in Gilroy. It will have an 11 a.m. shotgun start, and the Boosters are planning to accommodate 144 golfers for the event.

Included with the round of golf are the use of a golf cart and complimentary beverages on the course. “Tee prizes” will be available, with South County Chevrolet presenting a new car for the “Hole in One” contest.

There will be a buffet breakfast before the tournament, and a buffet dinner along with “silent auction” and raffle afterwards. Fees for the day will be $175 per golfer.

Pop warner carwash

The Morgan Hill Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Squad will be holding a fundraising carwash on Aug. 24 at 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monterey Highway, and Spring Avenue (Mr. Hong’s Chinese Food). Oakland Raiders Cheerleaders will be on hand to sign autographs and sell calendars. Cars/$5, SUV/$8. Come out and support Warner Football. Details: 778-6353.

Winter ball

Morgan Hill Pony Baseball will be holding “walk in” registration for players for the 2003 Winterball Season on Saturday Aug. 23, from Noon to 2 p.m. at Mountain Mikes Pizza, Tennant Station, Morgan Hill. Fees will be $45 per player.

A late walk in registration will be held on Aug. 27 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Late registration fees will be $55 per player.

The Winterball season starts September 6 and runs through mid November. Teams are being formed from Pinto Division (age 7-8) through Colt Division (age 15-16).

Golf tournament

The Senior Adults Legal Assistance charity is having its second annual charity golf tournament. Monday, Oct. 6 at the Stanford University Golf Course. Details: 295-5991.

Thrive on throwing

The nationally recognized off season arm strengthening program used by professional baseball players will be held Sept. 15 to Nov. 17 and will be limited to 12 students per each class. There are two different classes for under 12, a class for 13 + and a high school class. The program is designed to strengthen the arm by using arm circles, j-band surgical tubing and long toss. The class meets three times a week for an hour and a half and lasts eight weeks. The cost is $295 for the 36 hours of instruction. Details: 782-0630, [email protected] or www.jaegersports.com.

Golf fundraiser

Mitch Juricich, of Hooked on Golf, and Roy Holt the No. 1 Class B visually impaired golfer in the United States, will host the second annual ABDGA fundraising golf tournament Sept. 12 at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.

The four-man scramble competition – which has a $195 entry fee- will have a noon shotgun start. There will be simulation holes for golfers to feel what it is like to tee-off with various disabilities.

Night golf

Gilroy Golf Course will once again be kicking off its summer junior golf schedule with their second annual ‘Midnight Madness Nightlite Golf Tournament’.

The tournament is open to junior golfers from ages 10-17 and will be held at Gilroy Golf Course in September.

The event is played in the dark with glow in the dark golf balls. The festivities start at 7:30 p.m. with a putting tournament followed by a hamburger bbq at 8 p.m.

The six-hole tournament will start approximately 8:30 p.m. and end by 11 p.m. Entry for the event is $30 which includes golf, dinner, glow in the dark ball and prizes. The field is limited to the first 48 golfers. To sign up, please call Gilroy GC at 848-0490.

Mt. Madonna Challenge

The twenty-eighth annual Mt. Madonna Challenge 6k and 12k walk/run event, a fund raiser for the South Valley Symphony, will take place on Sunday, morning Aug. 24 at Mt. Madonna County Park. The 6k Salamander Walk and race will commence at 8:30 a.m. while the 12k Mt. Madonna Challenge run is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Runners will gather at the Sprig Lake picnic area for registration or may register online at “active.com” A good sized field of runners is expected as early registrations are already coming in from the bay area and the central area.

The scenic courses will take runners through groves of oak manzanita and redwood trees. The 6k or 3.6 mile loop has an elevation of gain of some 700 feet while the 12 k event will entail an elevation gain of 1200 feet.

Due to limited parking, participants are urged to carpool wherever possible. Shuttle service will be provided from the Mt. Madonna Inn to Sprig Lake at no charge. Day registration fees will be $25 with shirt and $18 without shirt.

Medals will be awarded to the first 3 places in each group in both races. Trophies will be awarded to the first place man and woman in the 12k race only. Details: 683-4683.

Rotary club golf tournament

Mark Friday, Oct. 3 on your calendar now to play in the Morgan Hill Rotary Club’s 10th Annual Oktoberfest Golf Tournament at beautiful San Juan Oaks Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament are used for projects that benefit the community of Morgan Hill, including ten scholarships awarded to local high school seniors.
