mh lands major usa swimming meet
Pacific Swimming has awarded Morgan Hill the Spring 2005 Far Westerns Championship meet, to take place at the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center. The meet, which will be held March 31 to April 3, 2005, will feature 700-900 of the fastest age group swimmers from throughout the western U.S. The competitive bid package was a collaborative effort involving the aquatics foundation, City staff, and the host team, the Morgan Hill Makos Swim Club.
“This is huge for Morgan Hill in terms of putting our community on the USA Swimming map,” according to John Rick, the aquatics foundation president. “Much of the credit for this honor should go to Julie Spier, the City’s community services manager, and Aaron Himelson, aquatics director at the Center. They have provided tremendous guidance in balancing the needs of the general community programming at the aquatics center with our desire to show off the fastest pool in Santa Clara County and bring in some really good volume for our hotels, restaurants, and retail businesses. The late March timing of the meet could not be better in terms of accomplishing these objectives.”
