LO, Gilroy grads to play in Wedemeyer all-star football game

Live Oak High grads Shaun Standridge and Dustin Vertin, and Gilroy High grads Jared Gamm and John Torres have been selected to play in the 31st Annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game on Wednesday, July 20.

The annual event will take place at San Jose City College at 7:30 p.m.

Standridge and Vertin were mainstays on a resurgent Acorn football squad that rebounded from a 22-game winless streak to post an 8-3 record, take third place in the always-tough Tri-County Athletic League and earn the program’s first section playoff berth in five seasons last year.

Gamm and Torres were key members of a Mustang football team that took fourth place in the TCAL and advanced to the second round of the section playoffs last season.

The quartet will play under the direction of all-star coaches Mark Krail, Eric Perry, Kevin Collins, Craig Hillesland, Greg Bernarding, Bill Gregg, Tim Lugo and Dave Cardoza.

Tickets for the 31st Annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game are $15 and can be purchased at the San Jose Box Office.

All proceeds from the game will benefit the Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach and other local charities. For more information about this event, please visit www.youthclassic.org.
