EDITOR: We have recently learned of the decision by Charter
Communications to eliminate KION and KCBA, our local CBS and FOX
affiliates, from the basic cable package, replacing these
affiliates with two Spanish language TV stations out of the Bay
Area, Azteca America and Telefutera.

We have recently learned of the decision by Charter Communications to eliminate KION and KCBA, our local CBS and FOX affiliates, from the basic cable package, replacing these affiliates with two Spanish language TV stations out of the Bay Area, Azteca America and Telefutera.
For years, KION and KCBA have provided valuable news, weather, traffic, local information and other programming to the citizens of our community. Keeping local broadcast news is very important to our community as a local source of information.
KION and KCBA have also been great supporters of local South Valley businesses and non-profit organizations. Between the two affiliates, they have sponsored more than 30 events for local non-profit organizations and have broadcast over 78 local businesses in the South County. As you can see, these numbers reflect the importance of local organizations and businesses relying heavily on these local affiliates for promotional and sponsorship opportunities.
We commend Charter Communications for wanting to add additional Spanish language stations to its cable system line-up to serve an important segment of our community, but believe that the addition of these stations can easily coexist with the continuation of KCBA and KION.
In summary, the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce’s members and Board of Directors oppose the elimination of KION and KCBA, our local CBS and FOX affiliates, from the basic cable package. We urge you to immediately reconsider the devastating impact that this decision will have on our community.
