Headed into next weeks zone championships, the compulsory girls gymnastics team at Champions Academy gained confidence as they took first place as a team at the Golden Bear Invitational in Berkeley this past weekend.
Every girl on the team hit their routines, and proved that all their hard work and training has been paying off.
Shiina Suarez posted the highest score for the team in the all-around with a 37.025, placing second in the level-five child division.
Suarez also placed first on beam, second on vault, second on floor and third on bars.
Caitie Shannon took the lead in the level-five junior division scoring 35.725 to capture first place all-around.
She added additional titles by placing first on bars, first on beam and second on floor.
Meghan Connolly rounded out the depth in the level-five squad, placing third on beam and fourth all-around.
The level-six girls continued their winning ways as individuals also took home top honors.
Haley Romero had one of her best meets to date, nailing routines on her way to a first place all-around finish in the level-six child division.
Romero also won first on beam, second on vault, second on bars and second on floor.
Maddie Miller continues to win bars titles at recent invitational meets, this time scoring a 9.4 for first place.
Miller’s skills and scores have been improving on each event this season, and she was rewarded for her efforts by placing second in the all-around, just behind Romero.
Rachel Hart continued her high-flying vaulting, posting a 9.375 in that event for first place.
She also placed second on beam and fourth all-around.
With the regular season over, the girls will compete at the Zone Championships on Monday, and then at the State Championships within the next couple of weeks.
