GILROY — Six local track and field athletes will try to make the cut for state this evening in the CIF-Central Coast Section championship meet at Gilroy’s Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.
The top three finishers advance to next weekend’s CIF State Finals in Clovis.
For Morgan Hill, the action begins with Live Oak high jumper Stephanie Armstrong, who will take the apron around 6:45 p.m.
Sobrato’s Alan Rios, the first of five Bulldogs to compete, will run the 800 meters at 7:40, followed by teammate Alex Meldrum’s 300-meter hurdles showing at 8. Rios, a junior, is seeded No. 3.
Sobrato’s Air Force Academy-bound senior Lance Wolfsmith is heavily favored to win the two-mile, which begins at 8:35.
Rios, Meldrum, Ralph Jackson and Tim Cavanaugh will run the meet-ending 4×400-meter relay at 9:15.
