Amateur or nonprofit entries will receive a $30 discount, business and professional entries will receive a $100 discount. This incentive award is valid through the parade deadline date of June 4. Applications, comments and changes postmarked after June 4, cannot be accepted.

‘Godspell’ comes to MH
– Marc Northcott directs a cast of nine local high school students in a production of the musical “Godspell,” at 7 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. The doors of the Advent Lutheran Church, 16870 Murphy Ave., open at 6:30 p.m.

Develop leadership qualities
– “Developing Your Child To Lead,” an interactive seminar will show parents how they can identify the leadership aptitude of their child and give them the skills to help support and encourage their child’s development as a leader.
Roselynn Pucan-Meagor, KidLead Certified Trainer, will lead the seminar. KidLead is a leadership program focused on youth 10 to 13 years of age. The free seminar takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Morgan Hill Library, 660 Peak Ave.

Talk with a trustee
– In an effort to open doors of communication with parents and the community, the Morgan Hill Unified board of education has scheduled a series of semi-monthly opportunities for individuals to have a casual one-on-one conversation with a board member. Bring ideas, suggestions, and questions and provide input to the board’s decision making process.Â
The next meeting is from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at MHUSD offices, 15600 Concord Circle. Two trustees will be present at each “meet your trustee” event: The next meetings are June 13, July 18, Aug. 1 and Aug. 15.

Flower lovers meet
– The Morgan Hill Flower Lover’s Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday June 1, at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road. This will be the last meeting before summer break and will commence again in September.
Find a good used book
– The Friends of the Library Book Sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Morgan Hill Library, 660 W Main Ave. All books are $1 or less, and only $3 per bag for the last hour of the sale. Children’s books are .10 to .25 cents each. Books of all types will be included: fiction, non-fiction (many business titles), old and rare, hardcover and paper.
The Members-Only Preview will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, before the sale opens to the public. Memberships ($10) may be purchased at the door. This is a great opportunity to stock up on books for summer reading. Teachers and nonprofits may take books for free at the end of the sale.

Big Band music comes to Morgan Hill
– The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West’s Jazz Ensemble, “The Commanders” will present a free concert of classic big band jazz music at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, at 6:30 p.m. June 19.
Under the musical direction of TSgt. Jim Butler, this 20-piece big band performs music ranging from the Big Band sounds of the 1940s to more contemporary sounds for audiences throughout the West Coast.
The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West is stationed at Travis Air Force Base. As the only remaining active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, its geographic area of responsibility includes Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and California. The Band of the Golden West has performed for gubernatorial inaugurations, with guest artists such as Toni Tennille, Marvin Stamm, and Bob Hope, and for the fans of the Oakland A’s, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Raiders, and the San Francisco 49ers.

‘Altered Reality’ on display at Morgan Hill House
– The Morgan Hill Photography Club and the Morgan Hill Historical Society are presenting a gallery show at the Morgan Hill House titled “Altered Reality.” The show features 41 original photographs that, through the use of computer software special effects, have been transformed into fantasy works of art. The Morgan Hill House is located at 17689 Monterey Road, and is open to the public Fridays 12 to 3 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The show runs though July 10, 2011. An open house reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Morgan Hill House.
Morgan Hill Swim Club celebrates 50 years
– The Morgan Hill Swim Club, now the Makos, will celebrate their 50th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center.

Take a Wildflower Walk at Henry W. Coe State Park
– Two outings at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday are just waiting for you to join in the easy stroll at Henry Coe Park. The wildflower walk is an easy stroll that last about two hours and cover less than two miles.
The walks are led by knowledgeable park volunteers who will introduce you to the lovely spring wildflowers along Coe Park’s trails. Bring a lunch. Your guide can help you plan more extensive hikes at the end of your leisurely wildflower walk. Meet in front of the Visitor Center.
